As Chief of the Bureau of Investigation and Intelligence (BII), Craig Buehler holds over 24 years of law enforcement experience. Prior to joining the California Department of Justice (DOJ), he was a Police Officer for the City of San Pablo (CA), where he was assigned to the Patrol and Special Investigations Divisions, and also held the positions of President and Treasurer in the Police Officers’ Association. In October 1987, Chief Buehler joined the California Department of Justice and was assigned to the San Francisco Regional Office, Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement (BNE), where he worked a variety of assignments and significant investigations. As a Special Agent (SA), Chief Buehler held the position of Regional Office Range Master, Training Coordinator, and was a co-lead Defensive Tactics Instructor for the Bureau. He also served on the operation MALIN Federal Task Force and as a Regional Operations Commander for Campaign Against Marijuana Planting. In 1996, Chief Buehler was promoted to Special Agent Supervisor in the San Francisco Regional Office. During his tenure as a supervisor he oversaw a variety of programs, including the Special Operations Unit, Financial Investigations, Diversion, San Francisco Office Airport Task Force, and Office Administration. Chief Buehler also served as a Pacific Region OCDETF Coordinator, Field Training Coordinator, SA Academy Counselor, and was the recipient of the Attorney General’s Award for Excellence in Supervision. In October 2001, Chief Buehler was appointed as the Acting Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the San Francisco Regional Office until he was officially promoted to SAC in April 2003. This assignment included oversight of seven regional office programs and eight regional narcotic task forces. In June 2004, Chief Buehler was appointed to the position of Assistant Chief of BNE and oversaw all Northern California Regional Offices, including BNE Headquarters. In February 2006, Chief Buehler was appointed to the position of Acting Chief of the California Bureau of Investigation. In June 2006 he was appointed to the position of Chief of the Bureau of Investigation and Intelligence. Chief Buehler has been a lifetime member of the California Narcotic Officers’ Association since 1999, is a member of the California Peace Officers’ Association, and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management from Saint Mary’s College.
