Past LEIU General Chairperson Dick Wright (retired) began his law enforcement career with the Los Angeles Police Department in 1965 and worked a variety of uniformed, detective and specialized assignments as an Officer, Sergeant and Lieutenant during 21 years of service. During the last six years at LAPD, he was assigned as a section leader in the Organized Crime Intelligence Division. In 1986, Captain Wright joined the Simi Valley Police Department as a Captain and last served as commanding officer of the Department's Support Services Division. He co-authored the California Peace Officers' Association's publication, Criminal Intelligence Program for the Smaller Agency and several other criminal intelligence articles. He also is a co-editor of Intelligence 2000: Revising the Basic Elements. Captain Wright taught criminal intelligence classes for the California Department of Justice and served on the California Attorney General's Organized Crime Advisory Committee. He also serves on the Executive Advisory Board for the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA). Prior to becoming the Past General Chairperson, Captain Wright was a two-term LEIU General Chairperson beginning in May 2001. Before becoming General Chairperson, he served on the Executive Board for 10 years as Southwestern Vice Zone Chairperson, Zone Chairperson and LEIU's Vice General Chairperson. Captain Wright retired from the Simi Valley Police Department in 2005 but remains active on the LEIU Executive Board. Captain Wright is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy and holds a bachelor's degree in Public Management and a master's degree in Public Communication from Pepperdine University.
