LEIU Board Members and Member Agencies Make Commitments and Provide Leadership to the ITACG

December 18, 2008

In 2007, the President and Congress created the ITACG to improve the sharing of federal agency information with State, local, tribal, and private sector (SLTP) officials within the scope of the Information Sharing Environment (ISE). The “Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act” passed by Congress and signed into law by the President in 2007 requires the ITACG be comprised of two components: (1) the ITACG Advisory Council and (2) the ITACG Detail.

The ITAG Advisory Council--is chaired by the Under Secretary of Homeland Security for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, sets policies and develops processes for the ITACG Detail to facilitate the integration, analysis and dissemination of federally-coordinated information within the scope of the ISE, including homeland security information, terrorism information and weapons of mass destruction information. LEIU General Chairman Russ Porter and LEIU Vice General Chairman Chuck Boschert both sit on the ITACG Advisory Council.

The ITAG Detail--participation in the ITACG Detail is provided through a Federal Fellowship Opportunity which reimburses participating agencies for all expenses, including an employee’s salary, for their one-year commitment to the Detail. Members of the ITACG Detail, who work at the National Counterterrorism Center in the Washington, DC area, provide advice, counsel, and subject matter expertise to the Intelligence Community regarding the operations of local, tribal, and state officials, including how such entities use terrorism-related information to fulfill their counterterrorism responsibilities as part of their core mission of protecting their communities. Members of the ITACG Detail have been frequently selected from LEIU member agencies, including:

  • Phoenix, (AZ)Police Department
  • Boston (MA)Police Department
  • New Jersey State Police
  • Las Vegas (NV)Metropolitan Police Department
  • Illinois State Police

LEIU salutes all of these individuals and agencies for their commitment and service to protecting our communities, our states, and our nation through effective criminal intelligence practices.
