Mr. McDermond joined ATF in December of 2004, as ATF’s Assistant Director for the Office of Strategic Intelligence and Information. In his role as Assistant Director he is responsible for ATF’s internal and external collection, analysis and dissemination of intelligence information in support of ATF’s mission to protect the public by reducing violent crime and preventing terrorism. Mr. McDermond joined ATF as a 21 year veteran of the United States Secret Service having served in Philadelphia, Newark, and Washington D.C., in protective, investigative and staff assignments. Mr. McDermond most recently served as the Deputy Assistant Director for the Office of Homeland Security. Mr. McDermond was the Director’s senior representative at the Department and was responsible for coordination between the Secret Service and the senior leadership of DHS and its component agencies, as well as assisting in the development of new or modified national policies related to the homeland security mission. Prior to this assignment, Mr. McDermond served as the Special Agent in Charge of the Information Resources Management Division, where he directed the operation of the division, which develops, provides and manages the information technology to support the protective and investigative missions and associated administrative functions of the Secret Service worldwide. During his 21-year career, Mr. McDermond was detailed as a legislative fellow to the United States Senate, Committee on the Judiciary as well as supervisory assignments on the Vice Presidential Protective Division and Secret Service Headquarters. Mr. McDermond began his law enforcement career as a police officer with the Conrail Police Department in Philadelphia, followed by an assignment as an investigator for the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety. Mr. McDermond was appointed as the Affiliate Agency Representative, a new position on the Executive Board, in January, 2009.
