In 2018, Cynthia Gatiglio was appointed as the first Chief Intelligence Officer (CIO) for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. As CIO, Ms. Gatiglio oversees the Intelligence Program for the Department which includes all information intake, intelligence analysis, HUMINT operations and the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) officers.

Cynthia began her career with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) in 1998 as an analyst at East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station. Shortly after 9/11, she joined the Sheriff’s Terrorism Early Warning Group (TEW), where she spent the next several years building her expertise in counter-terrorism and intelligence.

In 2006, Ms. Gatiglio started up the Joint Regional Intelligence Center (JRIC), one of the first fusion centers in the country. As a manager at the center, Ms. Gatiglio headed a 25 member team of intelligence analysts providing tactical analytical support to the JRIC’s 7-County Area of Responsibility. She spearheaded the JRIC’s first command post effort to support the Christopher Dorner Manhunt. After seven years at the fusion center, Ms. Gatiglio returned to the Sheriff’s Department in 2013 to assist in developing a jail intelligence program with the goal of implementing the program department-wide.

Ms. Gatiglio was appointed as the Intelligence Manager for the newly created Criminal Intelligence Bureau in 2015 and managed the daily operations of the intelligence center which analyzes, assesses and disseminates intelligence on emerging threats, terrorism and other homeland security matters. She has extensive experience in building intelligence systems and processes within local law enforcement and created a school threat identification initiative and threat mitigation plan for ongoing and persistent threats.

Over the years, she has built a strong network of professionals in the counter-terrorism field as well as within the Intelligence Community and numerous federal, state, and local law enforcement and public safety agencies. She serves as the intelligence representative for LASD and briefs command staff on threats, terrorism and intelligence matters.

Ms. Gatiglio holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from the California State University Los Angeles (CSULA) and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science – International Relations from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She specialized in the former Soviet Union and the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Ms. Gatiglio resides in Southern California with her husband of 24 years. She has teenage daughter in high school and a son who attends the University of Arizona. She enjoys cooking, photography, sewing, fashion, boating and everything Apple®.
